Working Without Boundaries: Putting my passion for events into practice
Hi, I’m Zoe, a Priority Service Advisor, based at our 24/7 Customer Hub in Leeds where I’m the first point of contact for our high priority and VIP customers, and responsible for ensuring they are given a sound experience whenever the bet or play with our products.
I’ve also been lucky enough to attend hospitality events and meet some customers face to face, and recently been able to put my passion for events into practice with Sky Betting & Gaming’s Community Engagement team.
My background has always been customer service based but a few years ago I decided to go back to higher education and completed my degree in Live Events Production with Backstage Academy. My degree covered various aspects of live events including staging, live sound, lighting and event management. I also managed to gain some work experience by working at several festivals and various events.
A few weeks ago I reached out to our Communications and CSR team as I wanted gain some more experience and meet other people who are part of the company whilst doing something rewarding. The Give A Duck Foundation, which we recently partnered with in 2017 is definitely something I can relate to, so was really pleased when it was picked as Sky Betting & Gaming’s charity of the year.
I was involved in organising and hosting SBG’s first fundraiser, the ‘Donate a Duck Quiz Night’. As it costs £25 to buy a child living with cancer a specially designed Chemo Duck play therapy toy, teams entered for £25 each. I definitely underestimated the number of people that would attend and was blown away by how many people wanted to support the cause (and socialise on a Tuesday night!) The atmosphere was amazing and it was great to see so many people getting involved in helping out a well-deserved charity, raising £1,500 along the way. It was also lovely to meet Karen and Andrew, the founders of Give-A-Duck.
This summer, I’m hoping to use more of my company volunteering hours to help out at future events in aid of Give a Duck, including our Charity Golf Invitational and The Cycling Sportive. I may even challenge myself to running a 10K or tough mudder with others around the company.
