I think it’s important to mention and to highlight at this stage that diversity isn’t all women encompassing, and neither is the International Women’s Day event we are hosting on the 8th of March – it is just one intricate part of a huge stream of improvements we are collectively making as a business.
Since taking on my new role of Early Careers Recruitment Manager, I’ve understood and appreciated even more so, the importance of diversity in the workplace and being able to educate young talent on what’s available for them post education. As we continue to grow and strive to be the best digital business to work for, it’s crucial that we have a varied workforce to offer fresh, innovative ideas and different ways of looking at things.
Events like Women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) this week where I was able to showcase opportunities that aren’t limited to degree subject or discipline was truly inspiring. Opening someone’s eyes to a path that that they might not have even considered truly makes my role worthwhile. Attitude, not aptitude is key for our business and I believe if you hold that with you, you can do anything you want to do.
What’s so special about Sky Betting and Gaming is that we have such a thirst amongst our culture to teach and learn; and that’s something we can’t lose as we continue to grow and attract not just early talent, but all talent. For me, I feel enhancing our workforce will come from home-grown talent, particularly with the skills shortage we are facing in the North. I feel lucky to work somewhere that is so invested in its commitment to early talent and development.
International Women’s Day is a celebration of all women, from the past, present and the future, but also a great opportunity for us to showcase some of the fantastic talent we have here and something we should all be collectively proud of.
It’s a celebration of the fact of how far we’ve come in the last few years and how we are going to continue to progress and that’s something that should be on everyone’s agenda, whether you’re male, female or non-binary.
It’s a chance to elevate and celebrate women within our industry and have the opportunity to hear from some other incredible people within the digital and tech space at the same time.
